Beijing - The Beijing municipal government Sunday sacked a vice-mayor who heads the construction team for the 2008 Olympic Games for corruption, state media said.
'Liu Zhihua, vice-mayor of Beijing, was removed from his post for corruption and dissoluteness on Sunday,' the official Xinhua news agency said in a brief report.
The Standing Committee of the Beijing Municipal People's Congress agreed to dismiss Liu, 56, after it 'verified the facts of his wrongdoings, which are found to be quite serious and have bad social influence,' the agency said.
It said files on Liu's case had been passed to public prosecutors but gave no details of the charges and did not say if they had any link to Olympic projects.
Liu was also in charge of the 2008 Venues Construction Headquarters in Beijing.
He joined the ruling communist party in 1984, according to his official biography.
'Considering Liu has violated the discipline of the Communist Party of China (CPC) and the government, the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection of the CPC and the Ministry of Supervision have put Liu's case on file for investigation and prosecution,' the agency said.
