Verbrugghe wins seventh stage in Giro as Hontschar is back in pink

Saltare, Italy - Belgium's Rik Verbrugghe won Saturday's 236-kilometre long seventh stage of the 89th Giro d'Italia from Cesena to Saltare Saturday while Ukraine's Serhiy Honchar regained the leader's pink jersey.
The first mountain stage of this year's race, which also passed through the principality of San Marino, failed to break up the peloton to any great extent and could have been decided by a mass sprint had Verbrugghe not broken away from his five-man group five kilometres from the finish.
The remaining riders were swallowed by the peloton but Verbrugghe managed to hang on and win by a few metres.
