Michaelle Kwan with injury problems

Turin, Italy - Michelle Kwan's dream of an elusive Olympic gold may be over before her figure skating ladies' event starts as the American is still nursing injury problems. Kwan, 25, did not go through her full routine in practice Saturday, saying she was still hampered by groin problems and said she was ready to give up her place on the team if worse came to worst. 'Physically if I am not able to skate I will give up my spot,' she told a news conference. Kwan is a five-time world champion who won Olympic silver in 1998, bronze in 2002 and hoped for gold now. She came to Turin by a special rule of the US Olympic Committee, which nominated her although the groin problems prevented her from qualifying at the national championships in January. 'It's been a struggle for me this year. I've gone through a lot of injuries, but I think taking one thing at a time for me is important. Listening to my body is important. I would love to do my best...(but) practicing this morning wasn't as easy going as I wanted it to be,' said Kwan. Kwan's competition is scheduled for February 21 and 23.
