McEwen wins 13th Tour stage as Armstrong cruises
Jul 15, 2005, 23:10 GMT
Montpellier, France - Australian Robbie McEwen won a sprint to the finish and took the 13th stage of the 2005 Tour de France as race leader Lance Armstrong enjoyed a leisurely day on his bicycle.
In winning his third stage of this year's Tour, the 33-year-old McEwen covered the 173.5 kilometres between Miramas and Montpellier in the south of France in 3hr 43:14 min, an average speed of 46.63 kilometres per hour.
Armstrong and his Discovery Channel team were able to relax on the stage, which was a transition between the recent mountain stages in the Alps and those ahead in the Pyrenees.
The six-time Tour champion leads Dane Mickael Rasmussen by 38 seconds in the overall standings, with Frenchman Christophe Moreau in third, 2:34 minutes adrift.
