Wimbledon win moves Williams back into top ten

Hamburg - Venus Williams' third women's Wimbledon title at the weekend moves the American back into the top ten of the WTA tennis rankings issued Monday, jumping eight places from 16th to eighth. Compatriot Lindsay Davenport, the women she beat for the title in an epic three-set encounter, retains her number one spot, with Russia's Maria Sharapova second and Amelie Mauresmo of France third in an unchanged top three. WTA Tour top 10 as of July 4 (previous ranking in parenthesis): 1. (1) Lindsay Davenport (USA) 5,613 Points; 2. (2) Maria Sharapova (Russia) 4,452; 3. (3) Amelie Mauresmo (France) 4,208; 4.
