IOC will not screen every athlete at 2012 Olympics, president says
Aug 26, 2011, 6:11 GMT
Daegu, South Korea - The International Olympic Committee will not be conducting blood tests on every competitor at the 2012 Games in London, IOC President Jacques Rogge said on Friday.
The majority of the tests will be left to the national sports federations, which are better placed to screen effectively, not least because the actual games are held only once every four years, he said.
Rogge was speaking at a press conference in Daegu, South Korea, on the eve of the world athletics championships, where the International Association of Athletics Federations has said it will be testing the blood of all 1,945 athletes for the first time.
Around 10,500 competitors are expected to take part in the London Olympics next year.
