2018 Olympics host decided in first round of voting
Jul 6, 2011, 13:57 GMT
Durban, South Africa - The host for the 2018 Winter Olympics has been decided in the first round of voting by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) on Wednesday.
IOC president Jacques Rogge announced that one of the three candidates, Pyeongchang, Munich and Annecy had obtained a clear majority of the 95 IOC members who cast a vote.
The winner was to be announced by Rogge at around 1500 gmt Wednesday.
Pyeongchang, who twice before were unsuccessful in their bid to bring the Winter Games to South Korea, is the favourite, but there was some surprise that only one round of voting was necessary.
The last time that the hosts were decided in the first round of voting was in 1995, when Salt Lake City won the right to host the 2002 Winter Games against Sion, Ostersund and Quebec City.
