IOC team in Pyeongchang to inspect Olympic bid
Feb 14, 2011, 13:27 GMT
Seoul - An International Olympic Committee (IOC) team arrived in Pyeonchang Monday to inspect the South Korean venue's bid to host the 2018 winter Olympic Games.
The evaluation commission, led by Sweden's Gunilla Lindberg, was greeted by some 1,300 Pyeongchang residents who lined the main road into the town waving flags and placards.
The official inspection will begin Tuesday when the IOC team will also meet President Lee Myung Bak as part of a welcome ceremony, Yonhap news agency reported.
The IOC commission arrived from French bidders Annecy and will be in Pyeongchang, about 180 kilometres north-east of Seoul, for five days. It will then head to Munich, the third of the three candidates.
The IOC will select the host city in Durban, South Africa on July 6.
