Sarkozy in Annecy to back Olympic bid
Feb 11, 2011, 16:33 GMT
Paris - French President Nicolas Sarkozy visited Annecy Friday to meet the IOC evaluation commission which is inspecting the venue hoping to host the 2018 winter Olympics.
Sarkozy said he would join the fight to bring the Games to the French resort which is considered the outsider against rival candidates Pyeongchang and Munich.
'You have got a very good bid book. Your region is absolutely beautiful. You want to host those games. We are going to fight together to have them,' Sarkozy said in the ski resort of La Clusaz, the intended venue for cross-country skiing and Nordic combined.
IOC commission members visited proposed venues for ice hockey and Alpine skiing events in Chamonix before meeting Sarkozy. It will conclude its visit Saturday before heading to South Korean venue Pyeongchang next week and Munich at the beginning of next month.
The IOC will select the host city in Durban, South Africa on July 6.
