Israel and Palestinian Olympians meet at IOC

Lausanne, Switzerland - The Olympic committees of Israel and Palestine held a first meeting on Thursday, under patronage of the International Olympic Committee.
The IOC said its president Jacques Rogge opened the meeting at the sports body's Swiss headquarters in Lausanne.
The IOC said various sports-related matters were discussed and that both sides will meet again in two months after an assessment of the various difficulties they face.
Israel offered training opportunities for Palestinian athletes who aim to compete at the London 2012 Games. The participation of Israeli athletes in international competitions was also on the agenda.
Israel was represented by NOC president Zvi Varshaviak and NOC secretary general Efraim Zinger. NOC president Major General Jibril Rajoub headed the four-strong Palestinian side.
The IOC also pledged it would provide experts to work on a long-term sports development strategy in Palestine in order to continue to assist not only the athletes but also coaches and sports administrators.
