Anaheim, CA - The Anaheim Ducks signed left wing Chris Kunitz to a four-year extension Monday. Financial terms were not released, but the team revealed that the extension will begin at the start of the 2008-09 campaign.
Kunitz, who will turn 28 years old on September 26, had a career year in 2006-07, as he registered career highs in goals (25), assists (35) and games played (81). He also notched one goal and five assists in 13 playoff games in 2007 to help Anaheim win its first-ever Stanley Cup title.
'Chris has been a very important multi-dimensional player for us the last two seasons, providing skill, physical play and leadership,' said Ducks executive vice president/general manager Brian Burke. 'We are very pleased to have him signed prior to his eligibility as an unrestricted free agent next summer.'
The Regina, Saskatchewan native has posted 107 points (44 goals, 63 assists) in 171 career NHL games.
Kunitz was signed as a free agent by Anaheim in April 2003, but hasn't spent his entire career in Anaheim. He was picked up on waivers by Atlanta early in 2005-06 and played just two games with the Thrashers before being claimed by Anaheim two weeks later.
