Lowell, MA - The New Jersey Devils ensured that their AHL affiliate, the Lowell Devils, will remain in the city of Lowell, Massachusetts for the foreseeable future on Thursday.
The Devils exercised their option to extend the lease with the city of Lowell for use of the Paul E. Tsongas Arena through the 2009-2010 season.
'We would like to thank the fans for their tremendous support during our first season,' said Devils president and general manager Lou Lamoriello. 'We look forward to continuing the relationship with the city of Lowell and our fans for the next three seasons and beyond.'
New Jersey had a December 31, 2007 deadline to come to a new agreement.
'The development of our young players with the Lowell Devils is vital to the success of our organization on every level,' said Lowell Devils general manager Chris Lamoriello. 'We take great pride in that development as they make the transition from the AHL to the NHL.'
The Devils purchased the Lowell franchise in June 2006. It marked the first time since the 1992-93 season that New Jersey has owned an AHL affiliate.
