Canucks re-sign Balej, trade for Fitzgerald

Vancouver, BC - The Vancouver Canucks made two roster moves Wednesday, re-signing forward Jozef Balej and trading center F.P. Guenette to the St. Louis Blues in exchange for defenseman Zack Fitzgerald.The 25-year old Balej, who has played in 18 career NHL games, spent last season with Fribourg-Gotteron of the Swiss Elite League. The 6-foot, 180-pound wing from Myjava, Slovakia, owns one career NHL goal and four assists.Fitzgerald, 22, spent the 2006-07 season with the Peoria Riverman of the AHL. He was originally a third-round selection of St. Louis in the 2003 NHL Entry Draft. Guenette, a seventh-round pick by Vancouver in 2003, has notched 25 goals and 72 assists in 135 career ECHL games.© 2007 The Sports Network
