Ottawa, ON - The Ottawa Senators acquired right wing Shean Donovan from the Boston Bruins in exchange for left wing Peter Schaefer on Tuesday.
A 12-year veteran, Donovan recorded six goals, 11 assists and 56 penalty minutes over 76 games last season for Boston, missing six games with ankle and knee injuries.
Having also played for San Jose, Colorado, Atlanta, Pittsburgh and Calgary, Donovan has scored 100 goals and dished out 114 assists in 774 regular-season games. He also has five goals and six assists for 11 points in 43 postseason games, including the 24 games played during the Flames' run to the 2004 Stanley Cup Finals.
In four seasons with the Senators, Schaefer scored 53 goals and added 105 assists while recording 130 penalty minutes in 315 regular-season games. He added five goals and 15 assists in 53 playoff games.
'Peter will bring us some added scoring and tenacity along the boards,' said Bruins general manager Peter Chiarelli. 'He has playoff experience and he is a proven penalty killer. His addition will help round out our forwards.'
The native of Yellow Grass, Saskatchewan, has played in a career total of 493 NHL games between the Vancouver Canucks and Senators, collecting 89 goals, 144 assists and 180 penalty minutes.
