Blue Jackets sign two players

Columbus, OH - The Columbus Blue Jackets signed center Derek MacKenzie and defenseman Dan Smith to one-year, two-way National Hockey League -American Hockey League contracts, the team announced on Wednesday. Per club policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.MacKenzie has spent the past six seasons as part of the Atlanta Thrashers organization. In 2006-07 he went scoreless in four games with the Thrashers and posted 14 goals, 23 assists and 62 penalty minutes in 52 games with the Chicago Wolves (AHL).Smith collected one goal, 10 assists and 97 penalty minutes for the AHL's Grand Rapids Griffins last season. He had spent the previous three seasons in the Edmonton organization.© 2007 The Sports Network
