Leafs extend Toskala

Toronto, ON - The Toronto Maple Leafs announced on Wednesday that the club has signed goaltender Vesa Toskala to a contract extension through the 2009-10 season. Toskala was obtained in a trade from San Jose on June 22 along with forward Mark Bell.The 30-year-old Toskala went 26-10-1 with a 2.35 goals against average and a .908 save percentage last season.'We look forward to Vesa joining our hockey club this upcoming season,' said Maple Leafs general manager John Ferguson. 'He has proven to be a valuable goaltender with strong statistical numbers, who will help solidify our team defensively.'© 2007 The Sports Network
