Calgary, AB - The Calgary Flames signed star forward and team captain Jarome Iginla to a five-year contract extension Wednesday.
According to Canada's TSN.ca, Iginla, who had one year remaining on his previous three-year deal, will be locked up for an average salary of $7 million.
The Edmonton native posted 39 goals and 94 points in 70 games last season, adding four points in six postseason contests.
Iginla was drafted 11th overall by Dallas at the 1995 NHL Entry Draft and then traded to the Flames for Joe Nieuwendyk. He made his Flames debut in the 1996 playoffs, then scored a goal in his first regular-season NHL game. He finished his rookie campaign with 21 goals and 29 assists.
Iginla won the Art Ross Trophy, Maurice Rocket Richard Trophy and Lester B. Pearson Award in 2001-02, scoring 52 goals, dishing out 44 assists and registering a plus-27 rating while playing all 82 contests.
In 2003-04, Iginla scored 41 goals in the regular season and led the Flames to the Stanley Cup Finals. He had 13 goals and nine assists in the postseason, but the Flames lost to Tampa Bay in a seven-game Final.
Iginla has collected 324 goals, 664 points and 548 penalty minutes in 778 games, all with Calgary.
The Flames also inked defenseman Robyn Regehr to a five-year extension. The 27-year old Regehr played in 78 games last season, registering two goals and 19 assists.
In 510 career NHL games -- all with the Flames -- Regehr has recorded 101 points while accumulating 512 penalty minutes.
