Sunrise, FL - The Florida Panthers signed free agent forwards Richard Zednik and Brett McLean on Sunday. Financial terms of each deal were not disclosed.
Zednik, an 11-year NHL veteran, was awarded a two-year deal. The Slovakia native posted career-lows with seven goals and 21 points in 42 games with Washington and the New York Islanders last season, but has compiled 168 goals and 320 points in 621 games with the Capitals, Canadiens and Islanders.
'Richard is a hard-working forward who possesses exceptional speed and a scoring touch,' said team general manager and head coach Jacques Martin. 'He is a clutch player who has performed very well in postseason competition. He will be counted on as we look to bring continued stability and success to the Panthers organization.'
McLean was given a three-year deal after posting a career-high 15 goals to go with 35 points for the Colorado Avalanche last season. The 28-year-old has posted 35 goals and 106 points in 238 NHL games with Chicago and Colorado.
'Brett is a gritty, tough and competitive power forward who will make an immediate impact in our line-up,' Martin said. 'He is a high character and versatile player who gives us more depth at the forward position. Brett perfectly fits the mold of a Panthers player who we are confident will contribute to this organization in both his on and off-ice efforts.'
Both players join a Panthers squad already bolstered by the re-signing of Jozef Stumpel and the acquisition of former Nashville Predators goaltender Tomas Vokoun.
