Toronto, ON - For the fifth time in the past six seasons, Detroit's Nicklas Lidstrom won the James Norris Memorial Trophy as the National Hockey League's best defenseman.
This was Lidstrom's eighth nomination overall for this award, which is voted on by the Professional Hockey Writer's Association.
Lidstrom finished fifth among defensemen in scoring with 13 goals and 49 assists and tied with Ottawa's Tom Preissing with a plus-40 amongst defensemen. His average ice time per game of 27 minutes, 29 seconds ranked third in the league for all players.
Anaheim's Scott Niedermayer, who won this award while with New Jersey in 2004, was also nominated along his teammate Chris Pronger.
Lidstrom finished with 1,217 points, while Niedermayer garnered 1,024 and Pronger finished with 608.
Lidstrom is now tied with Ray Bourque for third place in amount of Norris trophies.
