- The Washington Capitals try to end a two-game losing streak
tonight when they visit the Colorado Avalanche at the Pepsi Center.
Washington will open a four-game road trip in Colorado, followed by games in
Vancouver, Edmonton and Calgary. On Saturday the Caps suffered a 6-4 loss to
the Tampa Bay Lightning at the Verizon Center.
Capitals superstar Alexander Ovechkin scored a pair of goals, while Mike Green
and Brian Sutherby also scored. Alexander Semin added a pair of assists and
goaltender Olaf Kolzig made 29 saves in the loss.
The Capitals, who have lost four of their last five games, own a 0-1-2 record
on the road this season.
Meanwhile, the Avalanche have won three of their last four games, including
Monday's 6-1 triumph over the Los Angeles Kings at the Pepsi Center.
Colorado opened its three-game homestand on a good note, as Milan Hejduk
scored a pair of goals and assisted on another during a five-goal second
period.
Paul Stastny added a goal and two assists and Marek Svatos had a goal and an
assist for Colorado.
Peter Budaj made 27 saves and Joe Sakic had a pair of assists for the Avs, who
erupted for six unanswered goals for the victory.
Sakic needs just one more point to become the 11th player in NHL history to
score 1,500 for his career.
Wednesday's tilt between Washington and Colorado is the first since the
Avalanche posted a 4-1 victory on December 8, 2003. The Avs snapped a four-
game losing streak in the series with that win, but Washington is 3-1-1 over
the past five meetings.
The Capitals are also 0-1-1 in their previous two trips to the Pepsi Center.
