Philadelphia, PA - The Philadelphia Flyers announced the signings of defenseman Nolan Baumgartner and defenseman Lars Jonsson on Saturday.
Baumgartner agreed to terms on a two-year contract, while Jonsson inked a one- year deal. Financial terms of both contracts were not disclosed.
The 30-year-old Baumgartner had five goals and 29 assists for 34 points in 70 games for Vancouver last season.
'Baumgartner has a great shot, is a very good skater and two-way defenseman, kills penalties and plays the power play,' said Flyers general manager Bob Clarke.
The 24-year-old Jonsson collected 11 goals and 16 assists for 27 points for HV 71 Jonkoping (Sweden) last season. Originally drafted by the Boston Bruins in the first round (seventh overall) in the 2000 NHL Entry Draft, Jonsson played parts of six of the last seven seasons in the Swedish Elite League, tallying 21 goals and 32 assists for 53 points in 207 games.
'He (Jonsson) is a very interesting player with very good potential,' said Clarke. 'He is a really good skater, good with the puck and a good two-way player.'
