Las Vegas, NV - Former Heisman Trophy winner and former NFL star O.J. Simpson was arrested Sunday on felony charges of the alleged armed robbery of collectors of his own sports memorabilia.
According to Capt. James Dillon, Simpson was charged with two counts of robbery with a deadly weapon. two counts of assault with a deadly weapon, conspiracy to commit burglary and burglary with a firearm.
The charge of robbery with the use of a deadly weapon could land Simpson in jail for anywhere from three to 35 years, if convicted.
Simpson was transferred to a detention center for booking, and it was unknown whether he would be able to post bail for his release. At least one other person was arrested Sunday while Las Vegas Metropolitan police searched for four others in connection with the alleged armed robbery, which took place inside the Palace Station casino Thursday.
Simpson reportedly claimed he was retrieving stolen memorabilia that belonged to him.
The former Buffalo Bills star, actor and commercial pitchman has been a lightning rod for criticism since his ex-wife, Nicole Brown Simpson and her friend Ron Goldman were killed in June of 1994.
Simpson was accused of the murders but acquitted, although a jury later held him liable for the killings in a wrongful death civil lawsuit.
