Chicago, IL - Rex Grossman completed 20-of-34 passes for 160 yards with a touchdown and two interceptions, as the Chicago Bears held off the Kansas City Chiefs, 20-10, at Soldier Field.
Cedric Benson rushed for 101 yards on 24 attempts for Chicago (1-1), which fell to the San Diego Chargers 14-3 last week. Bernard Berrian caught five passes for 65 yards, and Devin Hester returned a punt 73 yards for a touchdown.
'We got off to a good start,' Grossman said. 'Now we have to put two halves together. We did enough today to win with the defense we have.'
Damon Huard completed 19-of-28 passes for 175 yards with a touchdown and an interception for Kansas City (0-2), which last week lost to Houston 20-3. Larry Johnson notched 55 yards on 16 carries, and Jeff Webb caught four balls for 59 yards in the loss.
'We had some chances, but the Bears have a great defense,' Huard said. 'There is no way to beat the Bears scoring 10 points.'
After a scoreless first quarter, Chicago went to work. The Bears drove 79 yards on 15 plays capped by a two-yard touchdown pass from Grossman to John St. Clair with 10:29 remaining in the second.
Hester then returned a punt 73 yards for a touchdown a minute later.
Chicago next mustered a 10-play, 46-yard drive that culminated in a 47-yard Robbie Gould field goal with 2:25 to go in the first.
Kansas City got on the board with its ensuing drive. A 31-yard reception by Kris Wilson and a 26-yard catch by Tony Gonzalez led Huard to complete a 16- yard touchdown pass to Dwayne Bowe for a 17-7 Chiefs deficit heading into the locker room.
Chicago struck first in the second half on Robbie Gould's 38-yard field goal with 8:36 remaining.
A Napoleon Harris interception set up a 45-yard Dave Rayner field goal to bring the Chiefs' deficit back to 10.
The Chiefs had a 3rd-and-1 at the Chicago 16-yard line, but Daniel Manning intercepted a pass intended for Sammie Parker in the end zone with help from a Charles Tillman deflection.
Kansas City's drive down the stretch was foiled by a Michael Bennett fumble recovered by Lance Briggs with 2:30 on the clock, and the turnover allowed Chicago to run out the clock.

The Bears' Lovie Smith met both Edwards and the Chiefs for the first time as a head coach. Smith and Edwards both served on Tony Dungy's staff with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers from 1996 through 2000.
