East Rutherford, NJ - Brett Favre threw three touchdown passes and DeShawn Wynn ran for a pair of scores to lead the Green Bay Packers to a 35-13 win over the New York Giants.
Favre complete 29-of-38 passes for 286 yards with one interception on his way to becoming the NFL's all-time leader in wins with 149, and now needs just four more TD passes to become the all-time leader in that category.
Wynn ran for 50 yards and Donald Driver had eight catches for 73 yards with one touchdown for the Packers (2-0), who scored 28 points in the second half to cruise to their second win of the season.
Donald Lee and Bubba Franks also caught TD passes for Green Bay, which has won both of its games this season against NFC East teams. Last week, the Packers beat the Philadelphia Eagles, 16-13.
'What we wanted to do in the game plan is spread it around,' said Green Bay head coach Mike McCarthy, whose team has won six straight dating back to last season. 'I think our players did a good job. Particularly our perimeter players with yards after the catch.'
Giants quarterback Eli Manning started despite suffering from a sprained throwing shoulder in Week 1's 45-35 loss to Dallas, but his presence on offense didn't help the horrendous New York defense.
Manning completed 16-of-29 passes for 211 yards with one touchdown and one interception. He left the game late in the fourth quarter when the Packers had the game well in hand.
Derrick Ward, filling in for injured starter Brandon Jacobs in the Giants backfield, ran for 90 yards and Plaxico Burress had two catches for 32 yards and a TD for New York (0-2), which has dropped eight of its last 10 regular- season games dating back to last season.
The Giants defense was torched for 368 yards and has now allowed 80 points and 806 yards of offense in just two games this season.
Ahead 14-13 early in the fourth quarter, the Packers put the game out of reach. First, Favre hooked up with Lee on a three-yard TD pass, capping a 10- play 80-yard drive that bridged the final two quarters.
Then, New York's Ahmad Bradshaw fumbled the ensuing kickoff and Tracy White recovered, giving the Packers the ball at the Giants' 22-yard-line. Five plays later, Favre found Driver in the back of the end zone for a 10-yard touchdown with 11:41 left in the contest.
The scores came just one minute, 48 seconds apart.
'I thought we executed the short passing game as well as we have in recent memory,' said Favre.
The Packers later capitalized on a Manning interception when Wynn scored on a 38-yard run with 4:12 left.
'To start 2-0 with as many question marks as we have, I'm pleased,' Favre added. 'I can't say enough about this team.'
The Packers have now won four of five against the Giants.
After a scoreless first quarter, the Packers finally broke the board in the second when Wynn ran in from six yards out with 8:18 left. The big play of the 71-yard drive was a 46-yard pass play from Favre to James Jones.
Jones led the Packers receivers with 75 yards on four catches.
New York answered right back, scoring 1:02 later when Manning hit Burress with a 26-yard TD pass in the end zone. The first play of the drive went for 40 yards, as Manning hooked up with Amani Toomer down the left sideline.
Then, after holding Green Bay to a three-and-out, Lawrence Tynes capped an eight-play, 41-yard drive with a 48-yard field goal with 1:38 on the clock and New York went into halftime with a 10-7 edge.
Favre opened the second half by ending a 10-play, 51-yard drive with a two- yard TD pass to Franks. The possession was aided by a third-and-six 17-yard pass from Favre to Jones, and then further assisted when New York defensive back Sam Madison was called for pass interference later in the drive, giving the Packers first-and-goal at the two-yard-line.
The Giants responded with a 32-yard field goal by Tynes with 4:22 left in the third quarter, making it a 14-13 contest.
The Packers are 2-0 for the first time since beginning the 2001 campaign 3-0, while the Giants off to their worst start since 1996 when they began 0-3.
