Coughlin encouraged by Manning's progress

East Rutherford, NJ - New York Giants head coach Tom Coughlin was 'encouraged' by starting quarterback Eli Manning's progress on Wednesday, according to a story on Giants.com.Manning suffered a contusion to the AC joint in his right shoulder during New York's 45-35 loss to Dallas on Sunday night, and his status for this Sunday's game against Green Bay is uncertain. He did not practice on Wednesday, but he did do some soft-tossing on the side and took some snaps from center, according to the story.Manning threw for 312 yards with four touchdowns and an interception on 28- of-41 attempts before leaving in the fourth quarter with the injury.Defensive end Osi Umenyiora and kicker Lawrence Tynes also missed practice on Wednesday. Umenyiora has an irritated lateral meniscus in his left knee, and reports have indicated that he could be sidelined for one-to-two months, but he is still listed as day-to-day. Tynes sat with a right calf injury.The Giants will already be without starting running back Brandon Jacobs on Sunday, as he is out with a sprained MCL in his right knee.© 2007 The Sports Network
