Texans place Simmons on IR; sign FS Demps

Houston, TX - The Houston Texans placed starting strong safety Jason Simmons on injured reserve and signed free agent safety Will Demps.Simmons suffered a torn patellar tendon in his left knee during the team's season opening 20-3 win over Kansas City on Sunday. The injury occurred with 6:37 left in the second quarter when Simmons attempted to bring down Chiefs running back Larry Johnson.Demps spent last season with the Giants and started all 16 games at free safety. He ended with a career-high 74 tackles and tied a career-best with two interceptions.New York placed Demps on the minor reserve list in the preseason with a dislocated elbow, allowing Houston to sign him.© 2007 The Sports Network
