Bills' Everett suffers spine injury
Sep 9, 2007, 23:59 GMT
Orchard Park, NY - Bills tight end Kevin Everett suffered a cervical spine injury and was knocked out cold, laying motionless before being taken off the field in an ambulance Sunday.
Everett was hurt during the second half kickoff of a 15-14 season-opening loss to Denver. He had surgery Sunday night.
Everett suffered the injury when he collided with Denver's Domenik Hixon's shoulder. Everett was placed on a backboard with his head and body immobilized, and carefully loaded into an ambulance before being carted off.
The game was delayed for about 15 minutes and the Bills gathered together for a team prayer on Everett's behalf.
Everett's injury wasn't the only one suffered for the Bills, who also lost starting safety Ko Simpson with a fractured left ankle and starting cornerback Jason Webster with a broken forearm. Also, linebacker Coy Wire, starting in place of injured Keith Ellison, suffered a torn knee ligament.
