Patriots' Hobbs rumbles for NFL-record kickoff return
Sep 9, 2007, 18:58 GMT
East Rutherford, NJ - New England Patriots kick returner Ellis Hobbs set an NFL record when he returned a kickoff 108 yards for a touchdown in Sunday's 38-14 New England win over the New York Jets at the Meadowlands.
With the Patriots leading 14-7, Hobbs fielded Jets' kicker Mike Nugent's boot to open the third quarter eight yards deep in his own end zone, and eluded several New York tacklers en route to the score.
Hobbs eclipsed the previous mark, a 106-yard kickoff return by Roy Green of the St. Louis Cardinals against the Dallas Cowboys in 1979.
The play tied the NFL mark for longest return of any kind, alongside 108-yard returns of missed field goals by Chicago's Devin Hester last season, and the Bears' Nathan Vasher in 2005.
