Giants activate Strahan; likely to play in Sunday's opener
Sep 9, 2007, 3:34 GMT
Irving, TX - New York Giants defensive end Michael Strahan was activated to the 53-man roster and will likely play in Sunday's season opener in Dallas.
Earlier this week, the seven-time Pro Bowl selection officially ended his lengthy holdout after reporting to Giants Stadium on Monday.
Strahan, who flirted with retirement, was fined over $14,000 on a daily basis after missing all of training camp and all four preseason games.
Strahan has 132 1/2 career sacks, tied with Hall-of-Fame linebacker Lawrence Taylor for first in franchise history. Both Giants are tied with Leslie O'Neal for seventh in league history.
The 35-year-old Strahan owns the NFL record for sacks in a single season with 22 1/2 in 2001, and he also led the league in sacks in 2003, when he compiled 18 1/2. He registered 11 1/2 sacks in 2005, but was limited to only three sacks in nine games in 2006, when a sprain to his foot cut his season short.
Strahan has played in 200 career games -- all with the Giants -- and has amassed 794 tackles.
