Seahawks Waive Two '07 Draft Picks, 19 More
Sep 2, 2007, 5:45 GMT
Kirkland, WA - Wide receiver Jordan Kent and guard Steve Vallos were among the 21 players released on Saturday, as the Seattle Seahawks reduced their roster to the 53-player maximum.
Kent, a sixth-round selection out of Oregon, and Vallos, a seventh-round choice out of Wake Forest, could both return to Seattle when the team sets its eight-man practice squad on Sunday.
Each of the Hawks' six remaining 2007 Draft choices made the 53-man roster.
Also waived on Sunday were defensive back Omowale Dada, quarterback Derek Devine, wide receiver Joe Fernandez, defensive end Brandon Green, defensive tackle Marcus Green, cornerback DeJuan Groce, cornerback Kevin Hobbs, cornerback Pete Hunter, linebacker Cameron Jensen, fullback David Kirtman, tight end Joe Newton, fullback Josh Parry, wide receiver Logan Payne, center Pat Ross, tight end Leonard Stephens, defensive end Nu'u Tafisi, defensive tackle Eric Taylor, running back Marquis Weeks, and offensive tackle Kyle Williams.
Notables among that group were Brandon Green, a five-game starter for Seattle a year ago; Kirtman, a fifth-round draft choice in 2006; Parry, who appeared in eight games with the Seahawks last season; and Weeks, who participated in 10 contests with the club a year ago.
In another move, defensive tackle Marcus Tubbs (torn right ACL), a former first-round draft choice, was listed on the club's season-ending injured reserve.
As previously reported, the Houston Texans acquired safety Michael Boulware from the Seahawks on Saturday in exchange for former first-round draft pick and defensive end Jason Babin.
Boulware was a second-round pick of the Seahawks in 2004, and played in every game for Mike Holmgren's team over that span. The Florida State product and brother of former Ravens Pro Bowler Peter Boulware has 11 interceptions in his NFL career.
Babin was selected out of Western Michigan with the No. 27 overall pick in the 2004 Draft, but did not make much of an impact in his three years with Houston. The defensive end totaled 13 sacks during his three years with the Texans, and started a combined five games in 2005 and 2006.
The Seahawks will open the regular season on Sept. 9, when they host the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
