Vikings ink first-round pick Peterson
Jul 30, 2007, 2:40 GMT
Mankato, MN - The Minnesota Vikings agreed to terms with running back Adrian Peterson on Sunday.
Peterson, the seventh-overall selection in this year's draft, was a three-time All-Big 12 first-team honoree out of Oklahoma University. He finished his college career ranking third in school history with 4,045 rushing yards and fourth in rushing touchdowns with 41.
As a freshman in 2004, Peterson was runner-up for the Heisman Trophy while setting a school record for rushing yards in one season with 1,925, breaking Billy Sims' 1978 mark. In 2006, he broke the 1,000-yard rushing plateau despite missing seven games with a collarbone injury.
Peterson joins Tommy Mason (1961), Clinton Jones (1967) and Darrin Nelson (1982), as one of only four running backs to be selected in the top 10 of the NFL draft in franchise history.
With this signing, the Vikings have agreed to terms with all eight of their 2007 draft picks.
