Report: Texans acquire QB Schaub from Falcons
Mar 21, 2007, 20:15 GMT
Houston, TX - The Houston Texans are reportedly set to acquire quarterback Matt Schaub from the Atlanta Falcons.
According to the Houston Chronicle, two NFL executives confirmed the deal.
Details of the trade apparently still need to be finalized, but the paper said the Texans will give up at least a second-round pick to obtain Schaub. Houston also must sign him to a new contract.
Schaub is a restricted free agent and signing a player of his status to an offer sheet without the Falcons matching would cost that team first- and third-round draft picks.
The 6-5, 237-pound Schaub, who served as Michael Vick's backup the past three seasons, has completed 84 of 161 passes for 1,033 yards with six touchdowns and six interceptions in his career.
Schaub would join quarterbacks David Carr, Sage Rosenfels and Bradlee Van Pelt on the roster.
Carr would likely become a roster casualty if the deal becomes official.
