New York, NY - San Diego Chargers quarterback Philip Rivers, Pittsburgh safety Troy Polamalu and Tennessee Titans tight end Casey Cramer were named the AFC's top players for Week 6 of the NFL season.
Rivers, who received offensive honors, made his fifth career start and recorded his first 300-yard passing game with 334 yards and two touchdowns in a 48-19 victory over San Francisco. He completed 20-of-39 passes and posted 13 consecutive first-half completions (tied for the third longest stretch in Chargers history).
For the season, Rivers has the NFL's second-highest passer rating (100.6), second-highest completion percentage (68.8), second-highest third-down passer rating (114.8) and third-highest fourth-quarter passer rating (114.7).
This was the first Player of the Week honor for Rivers.
Polamalu had 10 tackles and defended three passes, including an interception which he returned 49 yards, in Pittsburgh's 45-7 home win over Kansas City to earn defensive honors.
Cramer earned his first Special Teams Player of the Week award after helping the Titans to their first win of the season, a 25-22 victory at Washington. He gave the Titans the lead midway through the third quarter when he blocked a punt through the end zone for a safety. Cramer also recorded three special teams tackles and recovered a Titans' fumble on a punt return.
Other offensive nominees included Tennessee running back Travis Henry, who rushed for a career-high 178 yards against the Redskins; San Diego running back LaDainian Tomlinson, who ran for a career-best four touchdowns to a tie a team record; and New York Jets wide receiver Laveranues Coles, who caught five passes for 106 yards with a pair of touchdowns in a 20-17 victory over Miami.
Defensive consideration went to Jets linebacker Victor Hobson, who notched an interception and fumble recovery against the Dolphins, and Kansas City defensive end Tamba Hali, who had nine tackles and two forced fumbles against the Steelers.
Chiefs punter Dustin Colquitt and Steelers return specialist Santonio Holmes were considered for the special teams award.
