Raiders beat Vikings in Moss' return to Minnesota

Aug 15, 2006, 3:50 GMT

Minneapolis, MN - Randy Moss played sparingly in his return to Minnesota, as Andrew Walter threw for 148 yards and a touchdown in Oakland's 16-13 preseason victory over the Vikings at the Hubert H. Humphrey Metrodome.

Moss, who played for the Vikings from 1997-2003, caught one pass for 16 yards in limited action. Oakland starting quarterback Aaron Brooks wasn't sharp for the second straight game, finishing 1-of-6 with his only completion to Moss.

The Raiders improved to 2-0 this preseason behind Andrew Walter, who finished 10-of-19 with two interceptions and a 67-yard touchdown pass to Johnnie Morant with 5:19 left in the second quarter.

The long touchdown toss capped a four-play, 80-yard march that gave Oakland a 13-7 lead. The first of Ryan Longwell's two field goals, a 41-yard kick, brought the Vikings within three as the first half ended.

Longwell's 28-yard field goal with 55 ticks left in the third quarter tied the game at 13-13 entering the final stanza.

Sebastian Janikowski's third field goal of the contest, a 28-yard chip shot, gave Oakland the lead with 8:30 remaining in the game.

J.T. O'Sullivan engineered a last-minute drive to Oakland's 22-yard line, however head coach Brad Childress elected to throw for the end zone instead of attempting a game-tying field goal in the final seconds.

O'Sullivan's pass was intercepted by Hiram Eugene to end the game.

A Janikowski field goal from 27 yards out gave Oakland a 3-0 edge with 13:26 left in the first quarter. The Raiders worked with a short field after Troy Williamson fumbled the opening kickoff.

Brad Johnson was efficient in his two series, leading the Vikings to a touchdown on the second drive. Tony Richardson capped the eight-play, 56-yard march with a three-yard touchdown run with 5:11 remaining in the first.

Johnson finished 5-of-6 for 32 yards.

Janikowski's 55-yard missile that split the uprights came after Chris Carr returned the ensuing kickoff 60 yards to the Vikings 38-yard line.

Neither starting running back saw much action, as Oakland's LaMont Jordan totaled 21 yards on six carries and Minnesota's Chester Taylor finished with 18 yards on nine touches.
