Romo leads Cowboys past Seahawks
Aug 13, 2006, 5:20 GMT
Seattle, WA - Tony Romo went 19-for-25 for 235 yards and a touchdown to lead the Dallas Cowboys to a 13-3 victory over the Seattle Seahawks in preseason action at Qwest Field.
Romo got the start and played the whole game. Starting quarterback Drew Bledsoe sat out the contest along with high-profile wide receiver Terrell Owens, who was not in uniform due to an ailing hamstring. Bledsoe sat out at the behest of head coach Bill Parcells, who wanted to see how Romo played.
Patrick Crayton hauled in four passes for 61 yards and a touchdown for Dallas, which improved to 2-3 in preseason action versus Seattle.
Matt Hasselbeck went 4-for-6 for 43 yards and last season's MVP Shaun Alexander carried the ball six times for 13 yards for the Seahawks. Both players were taken out of the game shortly after the start of the second quarter.
The Cowboys second drive of the game ate up almost the whole first quarter as the team went on a 15-play, 89-yard drive that consumed 10:12 of clock time and was capped off by a Romo nine-yard touchdown pass to Crayton to make it a 7-0 game with 1:01 left in the first quarter.
The Seahawks responded with a Josh Brown 40-yard field goal less than three minutes into the second to cut the score to 7-3.
However, Mike Vanderjagt gave Dallas a 10-3 lead heading into the locker room with a 21-yard field goal with a little over two minutes left in the second.
Shaun Suisham connected on a 34-yard field goal that bounced off the crossbar and over to give the Cowboys a 13-3 lead with a little over five minutes to play in the third quarter.
