Oden to have exploratory surgery on knee

Portland, OR - Portland Trail Blazers rookie center Greg Oden will undergo exploratory arthroscopic knee surgery on Thursday, announced team general manager Kevin Pritchard.Oden, the top pick in the June NBA Draft after just one season at Ohio State, has experienced pain in his right knee, and will have the area scoped by team physician Dr. Don Roberts at Southwestern Washington Medical Center in Vancouver, Washington.Since being drafted, Oden has played in just two Las Vegas summer league games, and had a tonsillectomy in July. An MRI taken last week showed that the 7-foot, 257-pound center may have some cartilage problems in the knee.Following the surgery, a timetable for return will be set for Oden, who averaged 15.7 points, 9.6 rebounds and 3.3 blocked shots per game as a freshman for the national runner-up Buckeyes.© 2007 The Sports Network
