Spurs' Elson fractures left eye orbit

San Antonio, TX - San Antonio Spurs center Francisco Elson suffered a blow-out fracture of his left eye orbit, and was examined Thursday.Elson's injury stems from an August 19 game with Holland's national team against Belarus, when he was struck by an elbow.Elson, who averaged five points and 4.8 rebounds per game for the Spurs last season and appeared in 20 playoff games, will have surgery next week. He should be medically cleared for contact by mid to late September, but will have to wear a protective mask during the preseason.© 2007 The Sports Network
