Waltham, MA - The Boston Celtics officially signed free-agent swingman James Posey to a two-year contract on Monday, with the second year being a player option.
'For me, it starts on the defensive end, bringing that energy there and just the competitiveness and being able to compete,' said Posey. 'Right now, I'm just going to work on learning the system, get used to my teammates and get on the same page.
'At the end of the day, it's about winning and having that opportunity to win a championship, and this team we have now has a great chance of doing so,' added Posey.
Posey averaged 7.7 points and 5.0 rebounds in 71 games for Miami last season, including 19 starts. The eight-year NBA veteran owns career averages of 9.5 points and 4.9 rebounds with Denver, Houston, Memphis and Miami.
'He's a huge addition to our team,' said Celtics director of basketball operations Danny Ainge. 'He's got incredible versatility at both ends of the court. I think he's got even more offensive firepower than has been utilized in some of the places he's played in his career.'
