Wizards name Ayers assistant coach

Washington, DC - The Washington Wizards announced on Tuesday that they hired Randy Ayers as an assistant coach. Per team policy, terms of the contract were not disclosed.Ayers, formerly a head coach at Ohio State and with the Philadelphia 76ers, spent the last two seasons as an assistant with the Orlando Magic.'We are pleased to have Randy join our coaching staff,' said Wizards head coach Eddie Jordan. 'As an assistant with the Philadelphia 76ers, he implemented the defensive schemes for a team that advanced to the NBA Finals, and he has been on staffs that have made numerous postseason appearances.'Prior to his stint as head coach in Philadelphia in 2003 and 2004, Ayers was an assistant under Larry Brown for six years, including the 2000-2001 season, when Philadelphia lost to the Los Angeles Lakers in the NBA Finals.Ayers was the head coach of the Buckeyes from 1989-97. During his reign as head coach he guided the Buckeyes to consecutive Big Ten championships in 1991 and 1992 and finished with a 124-108 record.© 2007 The Sports Network
