New York, NY - The Charlotte Bobcats acquired guard Jason Richardson from the Golden State Warriors in exchange for the rights to North Carolina forward Brandan Wright, the eighth overall pick, in Thursday's draft.
The Bobcats also received the rights to Alabama forward Jermareo Davidson, the 36th selection in the draft.
Richardson started in 49 of the 51 games he played in during the regular season and averaged 16 points and 5.1 rebounds. He also helped the team to an upset of the top-seeded Dallas Mavericks in the first round of the playoffs.
The 6-foot-9 Wright left North Carolina after his freshman season, but is considered one of the better defenders in the draft. He averaged 14.7 points per game for the Tar Heels last season.
Wright was the fifth freshman in Atlantic Coast Conference history to win Tournament MVP honors and broke the ACC single-season freshman record with a .646 field goal percentage.
Davidson averaged 10.2 points over his four years at Alabama.
