Memphis, TN - Chauncey Billups scored 19 points and dished out nine assists to lead the Detroit Pistons over the Memphis Grizzlies 92-89 at the FedEx Forum.
Tayshaun Prince added 17 points for the Pistons, who rebounded from Friday night's 85-82 loss to the Heat to win for the fifth time in six outings. Richard Hamilton had 12 points and seven assists and Chris Webber had 13 points and eight boards for Detroit, which was challenged the entire game by the Grizzlies.
Mike Miller had 24 points and Pau Gasol added 22 points and 15 boards for Memphis, which has dropped four straight.
With just under four minutes to play and the game tied at 82, Antonio McDyess came up with a block of a Gasol jumper. Hamilton ended up with the ball and went coast-to-coast, converting a layup to give Detroit the lead for good.
The Pistons later increased to an 87-82 lead on a McDyess free throw. Memphis, though, managed to draw within 92-89 on a Damon Stoudamire three-pointer with under a minute to play and then had a chance to send the game into overtime in the final seconds.
First, Rudy Gay missed a three-pointer with five seconds left. Then, Miller missed a turn-around trey as time expired.
Gay ended with 12 points for Memphis, which trailed 28-23 after one quarter and went into halftime tied at 49. The Grizzlies then rallied to go into the fourth ahead 68-65.
