Pacers acquire Harrington from Hawks
Aug 22, 2006, 22:50 GMT
Atlanta, GA - The Indiana Pacers acquired forward Al Harrington and center John Edwards from Atlanta as part of a sign-and-trade deal that landed the Hawks a 2007 first-round draft pick.
Harrington spent the last two years in a Hawks uniform, after spending his first six seasons in the league with Indiana. Last year, Harrington averaged 18.6 points and 5.8 rebounds in 76 games.
Terms of Harrington's deal were not announced by either team.
'We're very pleased to have Al back in Indiana,' said Pacers president of basketball operations Larry Bird. 'We think he brings an added dimension to our team. We know what he can do and he'll make us a deeper team and a better team. He's also a very good guy. It's a pleasure to have his personality back as well.'
The Pacers made Harrington the 25th pick in the 1998 draft.
'We feel this move brings us valuable assets, including additional salary cap flexibility as we move forward,' said Atlanta general manager Billy Knight. 'When Al came to us, he brought a winning attitude to our franchise and he always put the team first. We are certainly in a better position now having had Al as a member of the Hawks.'
Also a former Pacer, Edwards averaged 1.8 points and 1.2 rebounds in his only season for the Hawks. He was signed as a free agent on August 23, 2005.
