Mar 24, 2011, 22:25 GMT
Paris - The 2012 Dakar Rally will take place over 14 stages and end in the Peruvian capital of Lima, organizers confirmed on Wednesday.
The French organizing company ASO said the 9,000-kilometres rally is due to start on January 1, 2012, in Mar del Plata, Argentina, and end in Lima on January 15.
The previous three editions of the Dakar rally were held in Argentina and Chile only over 12 stages, starting and ending in Buenos Aires. In 2012, Argentina and Chile will have five stages each and Peru four.
The Dakar Rally moved to South America in 2009 for security reasons after being held in Africa until 2007. There was no rally in 2008.
