Los Angeles, CA - Chris Snyder hit a three-run homer and Stephen Drew drove in a pair of runs to lead the Arizona Diamondbacks over the Los Angeles Dodgers, 6-1, to salvage the finale of a three-game set.
Snyder ended 2-for-4 with two runs scored for NL West-leading Arizona, which had only six hits in the game, but still maintains its two-game lead on San Diego in the division. The Padres beat the Giants, 5-1, earlier on Sunday.
Arizona starting pitcher Edgar Gonzalez (8-2) got the win, allowing one run on six hits with one walk and one strikeout over five innings.
'This win was great to take from the Dodgers,' said Arizona's Eric Byrnes. 'It wasn't a must-win for us, but it was our biggest of the season. We have to continue to play like we did today.'
Rafael Furcal homered for the Dodgers, who had a four-game win streak halted and fell 4 1/2 games behind Arizona in the division. Jeff Kent ended with two hits for Los Angeles, which also fell 2 1/2 games behind the Padres in the wild card race.
Dodgers starting pitcher Esteban Loaiza (1-2) was touched for three runs on only one hit, but he walked seven and struck out only two over 4 2/3 innings.
'It's frustrating,' said Loaiza. 'I wasn't able to go five innings. What hurt me was walks. I walked seven. That's the most I've done in my career. The only hit I gave up was the homer. Hopefully the next outing I'll go further.'
Snyder started the scoring with his three-run homer in the second.
Furcal drew the Dodgers within two runs in the fourth with his solo homer.
However, Chad Tracy's pinch-hit single plated Snyder in the sixth to regain the three-run lead.
Drew added a two-run single in the ninth to cap Arizona's scoring.
