- Right-hander Tim Hudson can snap a four-start winless streak today when the Atlanta Braves visit RFK Stadium to close out a three- game series with the Washington Nationals.
Hudson, who won five straight starts between July 29 and August 20, is 0-3 with a no-decision in four starts since, including a 3-2 loss to the New York Mets on September 10, in which he allowed five hits and three runs in seven innings.
In the four starts overall, he's given up 31 hits and 17 runs in 23 innings.
Hudson is 4-1 in seven career starts against the Nationals with a 1.29 earned run average in 48 2/3 innings.
Atlanta, which has lost four of six, now sits 5 1/2 games behind San Diego for the NL wild card lead.
Washington's Shawn Hill gets the start opposite Hudson.
The 26-year-old right-hander is unbeaten in his last eight starts, winning twice and getting six no-decisions.
He downed Florida, 5-4, in a September 10 outing at Dolphin Stadium, allowing six hits and an earned run in six innings. His last loss came May 1 at San Diego.
Hill lost his lone career start against the Braves, allowing seven hits and three earned runs in six innings.
On Saturday, Robert Fick belted a pinch-hit three-run home run in the third inning as Washington picked up a 7-4 win. D'Angelo Jimenez went 3-for-3 with a two-run home run and two runs scored while Austin Kearns and Ronnie Belliard each drove in a run for the Nationals, who snapped a three-game losing streak.
Jason Bergmann (5-5) got the win as he gave up just four runs on eight hits in 6 2/3 innings.
Chipper Jones hit a three-run home run and Corky Miller added a solo shot for the Braves.
Lance Cormier (2-6) was tagged with the loss as he gave up five runs -- four earned -- on three hits with four walks in two-plus innings.
Atlanta is 10-7 against Washington this season but has lost five of eight matchups with the Nationals at RFK Stadium in 2007.
