San Francisco, CA - Matt Murphy, who caught Barry Bonds' record-breaking 756th home run ball, sold it in an online auction Saturday at scpauctions.com for $752,467.20 to an anonymous buyer.
An Elmhurst, New York resident, Murphy, sold the ball in the same auction as the Bonds' 755th home run ball, which went for $186,750.
Murphy, a college student, was traveling with a companion to Australia when they stopped at a Giants game. They nearly missed the historic at-bat while purchasing a crab-cake sandwich, according to Murphy.
SCP Auctions are no strangers to Bonds' memorabilia, having sold home run ball No. 700 for $102,000 on June 10, 2005. Last August Bonds' 715th home run ball, making him second on the all-time home run list surpassing Babe Ruth, sold for $220,100 at auction.
