Sep 12, 2007, 15:00 GMT
- Brandon Webb will try to pitch the Arizona Diamondbacks back into the win column when he takes the mound tonight in the finale of a three-game series against the San Francisco Giants at AT&T Park.
The D'backs, who lead the NL West by 2 1/2 games over the Padres, had their six-game winning streak come to an end with Tuesday's 2-1 loss in the second test of this series. Webb will try to start a new winning streak this evening and is 15-10 with a 2.91 ERA in 30 starts this season.
He ended a personal two- game losing streak the last time out on September 7 versus St. Louis, holding the Cardinals to a pair of runs in six innings of a 4-2 victory at Chase Field.
Webb, who has won seven of his last nine starts, is 8-5 in 16 road outings this season. The 2006 NL Cy Young Award winner is 8-5 with a 3.12 ERA in 17 career starts against the Giants. Webb leads the NL with 210 innings pitched.
In Tuesday's loss Chris Young belted his 30th home run of the season and is now tied with Ryan Braun of Milwaukee for the lead in homers among rookies in 2007. Edgar Gonzalez gave up one run and three hits in six innings and Bob Wickman suffered the loss for allowing the go-ahead run in the eighth.
Pedro Feliz drove in the winning run in the bottom of the eighth inning to lift San Francisco last night. Nate Schierholtz notched the other RBI for the Giants, who won for the fourth time in their last six games. Kevin Correia started on the hill and tossed 5 1/3 innings of one-run, six-hit ball with four strikeouts for the no decision.
Tyler Walker got the win by getting two outs in the eighth and Brian Wilson collected his third save with a scoreless ninth.
Jonathan Sanchez will make his third start of the season for San Francisco on Wednesday, and he is 1-3 with a 5.06 ERA in 31 games (two starts) this season. He last pitched on September 7 versus Los Angeles, posting a no decision after yielding three runs in seven innings of a 5-4 win.
The left-hander is 0-1 with a 2.25 ERA in three career games (one start) against Arizona.
The 2007 season series between Arizona and San Francisco is tied at 7-7. The Giants are 6-2 in games played at AT&T Park.
