Anaheim, CA - Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim centerfielder Gary Matthews Jr. left the Angels 10-5 win over the Baltimore Orioles Tuesday with a sprained right ankle.
X-rays on the ankle were negative, and team spokesman Eric Kay said Matthews will likely sit out the remainder of the road trip, which ends Sunday in Chicago.
Matthews suffered the injury in the third inning while sliding into second base on Howie Kendrick's inning-ending groundout to short.
Matthews was replaced in center field in the bottom of the inning by right fielder Reggie Willits, with Nathan Haynes taking over in right.
Matthews is hitting .257 with 18 home runs and 72 RBI for the Angels this season.
