Braves place Renteria back on DL
Aug 25, 2007, 17:04 GMT
Cincinnati, OH - The Atlanta Braves placed shortstop Edgar Renteria back on the 15-day disabled list Thursday, just a day after activating him from the DL.
Renteria, in his return to the lineup after missing 17 games with a sprained right ankle, left in the first inning of the Braves' 4-2 loss to the Reds on Wednesday when he aggravated the injury.
Sidelined since August 3, Renteria stepped to the plate in the first inning and took the first pitch, a ball inside. His right leg buckled a bit as he took his stride, and Renteria limped around the batter's box for a moment before turning to the dugout, and leaving the game.
It was a depressingly short return for a vital cog in the Braves lineup, as Renteria entered play Wednesday tied atop the NL with his .336 batting average, along with 11 home runs and 53 RBI.
Infielder Martin Prado was recalled from Triple-A Richmond to fill Renteria's roster spot. Prado had been optioned to Richmond to make room for Renteria on Wednesday, but stayed with the team in Cincinnati, and now has a spot back on the Braves roster.
