A-Rod named American League Player of the Month

New York, NY - New York Yankees slugger Alex Rodriguez has been selected as the American League's best player for the month of June.
Rodriguez hit .406 with 39 hits in 96 at-bats over 27 games to earn the honor. He led the league with a .781 slugging percentage, nine home runs, 28 runs scored and 34 runs batted in. He also collected 18 extra-base hits, including nine doubles, walked 18 times and had a .500 on-base percentage.
The two-time AL Most Valuable Player also finished as the league's leading vote-getter in fan balloting for the upcoming All-Star game with 3,890,515 votes. It marks the 11th time Rodriguez has been selected for the Mid-Summer Classic.
This was Rodriguez's second Player of the Month Award this season, his fifth as a Yankee and the ninth of his career - the most among American Leaguers.
Chone Figgins of the L.A. Angels of Anaheim was the runner-up in voting for June. Figgins hit .461 with 53 hits, 23 runs and 14 stolen bases.
